If a door specifically requires it, try not to pick up the key until the path is clear. If a door doesn't require it, run like mad and use the skeleton key to open every chest you can before time runs out. Hint: You get two warnings that you're about to head into a boss monster level. First, the teleporter usually has a mosaic on the floor nearby; second, as the new dungeon level generates, the screen will say, "Time to Get Medieval." If you see a mosaic on the floor near the teleporter, try to make sure your health is maxed before you go through. Hint: The best defense against thieves is a well-grouped party. When opening a chest, try not to stand in the corner of the screen. If the thief hits you and scoots out of your view, he's almost guaranteed to get away before you can run him down.
