Ultima Online cheats / Ultima Online hints / Ultima Online faqs / Ultima Online solutions Ultima Online hints Warning: These hints are only for people that want to become strong and will limit the true role-playing experience. That is, if you want to role-play a pure warrior, discard the hints and enjoy your time although you might suffer some disadvantages comparing to magic-using characters. Tips for character creation: 1. Don't start as a warrior. Tactics/swordsmanship/mace-fighting skills are VERY easy to raise compared to magery and others. 2. To get most advantage from a beginning character, I prefer 50 magery and 50 tailoring. 50 magery is an essential, as it lets u cast recall, a fourth-circle life-saver spell. 50 tailoring lets you tailor with less failures, which means you can use the cloth to a better extent, wasting less materials. 3. If you prefer, besides the 50 magery, maybe you want to divide the remaining points to resisting spell and one of the money-making skills. Resisting spells are hard to raise, at least up to the most recent patch. 4. As to the attributes, I suggest don't put anything into dexterity. Dexterity is extremely easy to raise. Starting from 10 or 15 and you can raise it to 50 when your strength only raise from 20 to 35 Tips for starting characters: 1. Don't go out and fight just yet. A pig or even a sheep can kill you. 2. Train with dummies. They are made for new characters. Use a sword on it, and then a mace, then bare-handed. That will raise your strength and dexterity, also your combat skills, including the important Tactics skill. 3. This is a cheat I got from my friends...I call it a "Coin Trick." Set a hotkey "last object." Don't use it in conjunction with Alt or Ctrl key. eg F1. Get near the dummy and hit it once. Now whenever you press the hotkey (F1 in this case) you will hit the dummy again. To cheat, put some coins (enough to weight down your hotkey) on F1 and your character will keep on hitting the dummy even if you are away. This will get you off the boring, repetitive dummy-hitting task. The good thing is, it doesn't violate your agreement with UO since you are not cheating using another program :) Practice all your combat skills until they all reach 25 and you should be moderately strong by now. 4. Put everything in your bank box to avoid pickpockets. Now find a safe spot (in town!) Set hotkey "Use Skill" hiding. Use the "Coin Trick" and you can go to bed. When you wake up your hiding skill should be pretty high, good for avoiding pkers when they are chasing you!! More importantly, check your dexterity. You will be surprised. 5. After raising your str (Strength) and dex (Dexterity) now it's time to raise your int (Intelligence). The best way is to use "Spirit Speak" since it depends 50% on your intelligence--good for raising it. Again you can use the "Coin Trick". 6. Warning. Don't practice useless skills. My first character dabbled in everything and ended up capped in skills. Which means my skill points maxed out. (Stat cap at 220 and skill cap at 1100, as far as I know) Tips for animal/monster hunting: 1. DON'T EVER VENTURE OUT ALONE!!! Unless you have a recall rune back to town ready and you are ready to recall any moment. Pking is the number 1 cause of death (lag is number 2). If you see Dreadlord GM mages hurling fireballs at you, run like hell. Don't fight them unless you are strong and you are with a group of strong good guys. 2. Don't bring more than necessary. That way if you die, you don't lose much. Try to get your str up to 40 so you can equip bone armor. They are cheap (buy them from other players or find them from the remains of monsters) and strong (not very durable though). 3. Fight animals before your combat skills (average of tactics and your choice of weaponry) hit 50. Since training with dummies can only raise your skills up to 25, you have to fight weaker animals for now. 4. Gather your friends and enter caves/dungeons after your combat skills hit 50. Fighting monsters raise your notority. You also earn gold from most monsters and your stats/skills go up like a rocket. Be sure to ask every wayfarer you meet about the conditions ahead of your route. (Hail! Did you see any pkers around?) 5. Don't ressurect right after your character dies. You lose up to 25% of all your skills (I heard it's 10% but someone told me it's up to 25%). Find a healer to resurrect you as soon as possible and you will only lose your equipment. Another reason to have trustworthy teammates: to gather your belongings. There are more strategies but these are enough for newbies to survive. If you follow the tips one by one, you should be a fair warrior with 50+ magery. Practice your magery by casting the highest-level spell that you can possibly cast, preferably spells that use less reagents. But practicing magery requires a lot of reagents and you need tons of coins to back your character up. By now you should be able to survive without further guidance. Just remember to help other wayfarers when they are in need. I wouldn't have survived if not helped by the good people when I was still a newbie :) Other Ultima Online cheats hints faqs solutions: 1.
