StarCraft cheats / StarCraft hints / StarCraft faqs / StarCraft solutions StarCraft hints Hint: Terrans should never forget the lowly trooper. Build them early and often, and buy all the improvements for them you can. These unsung gunners should be the backbone of your defense as they are deadly in a dispersed group to both ground and air units. Two bunkers full of them can hold off a horde of Zerg until help arrives. Hint: The Zerg are designed to be a ravenous horde and should always act as such. Early in any game, put together a double growth pack of Zerglings and send them off to try and cripple any enemy base. Later concentrate your efforts on building air units. A large mass of Mutalisks can puncture any defense if used properly and certainly can maintain air superiority. Hint: Protoss players need to be aware of their vulnerabilities, which are time and resources. The Protoss have a huge number of buildings to make and defend in order to be all that they can be. Use your subtle but very important advantage of not needing workers to actually build things to start gating structures and then go back to harvesting. And establish a second resource base as quickly as possible in any game. You will need the crystals and gas badly. Hint: Vespene gas is never truly depleted. When the game informs you the mine is depleted, itÒs lying to you. DonÒt take it personally, though. WhatÒs really happening is that your worker units can now only carry two units of Vespene instead of the full eight in each trip. YouÒre much better off reassigning the units to untapped Vespene geysers, but itÒs reassuring to know that no Vespene mine is ever completely empty. Hint: When harvesting minerals, remember that only one mining unit can access each cluster of minerals at a time. Sending all of your units to the exact same mineral location (square) can cause delays as each mining unit waits for access to that location. To speed things up, assign each mining unit to a different square. Hint: Strong units are the Zerg's forte. All units and buildings possess the ability to heal, albeit rather slowly. The Zerg's primary weakness is the fact that it must build on the Creep. Without the living carpet of the Creep to build on, its bases are worthless. Hint: The Protoss have the strongest units; they're protected by energy shields that heal quickly. However, once the Protoss buildings themselves are damaged, they are irreparable. Hint: To issue several right-click commands to a unit at once--for example, if you'd like them to perform a number of tasks in a particular order--hold down the Shift key while you're giving your orders. Hint: The Terran Battlecruiser, Arclite Seige Tank, Zerg Guardian and Defiler, and Protoss Reaver and Carrier are the best suited units for building sieges against heavily fortified bases. With little effort, these units can wreak havoc on defensive emplacements. Hint: Fast and efficient expansion is the key to success. Hint: Always upgrade your weapon damage first. Also, try to research all three levels of weapons upgrades before moving on to armor. Hint: Special ability units can be a valuable asset--or a formidable enemy. When you have special ability units at your disposal, do your best to master their powers; they could be the difference between victory and defeat. If you see special ability units among your enemies, try to kill them first, before they can use their considerable powers against you. Hint: Don't leave home without at least a Dropship, Overlord, or Shuttle filled with SCVs, Drones, or Probes. If you are attacked and have no way out, these peons will enable you to start a new base. Hint: In single-player combat, the computer always expands in the same area. If you find that area, defend it and resist the computer's attacks; you'll win the game much faster. Hint: The parasites produced by the Zerg queen can be placed on various creatures roaming the land, enabling you to keep an eye on random areas around the terrain.
